hi sejal,

I am happy and sad too, seeing the things going around us. I had seen people dont care even they had affected by climate. And their are people like you who had taken some inishative to encourage people to patricipate in the green revolution.

We can only be successful until it become a mass movement. It Should be "if u save environment you had serve your country & your earth".

Hope every one should understand their duties.

Best Wishes,
Go Green

Hi all,
Nice blog and comments too, just had a little bit to add to the discussion. Here in India most of the so called IT revolution is getting happened only in the software part of the overall product. so considering that most of the software we write here are being used on the actual product(hardware) which is manufactured else were. Simple example i experienced myself was when i was working on the 3G mobiles our team in one of the leading mobile equipment company developed the next gen interfaces and applications, But these can be released only in the Us and European markets where the spectrum and the costumers are available. Hence any entrepreneur having an idea of starting the electronics manufacturing firm will either think twice else will move the the place he gets the market to sell them. One good thing is even though most these works were done else where, indians contribution is on high note. We can only hope as the days goes by things will get better.

@Tanvi: As I already mentioned in the blogpost, India doesn't have any specific process for this. Just sign the donor card (can be access from the links in the blog) and keep them with you all the time. Do let your family and friends know about your wishes. It will also be good to go to any local hospital in your city, and get donor cards from there (any big hospital should be able to guide you), which has hospital's contact information in case of emergency.

Whether women become less dependent on men by gaining jobs, careers and what not, they will always feel imcomplete without the other. And in making sure that no external power such as God or destiny end this longevity of togetherness, they will keep taking the measures of fast as women are always more affected by the idea of loss in any way.

Another theory:
In older days, women of the household used to keep fast very often for the Gods so that the blessing of the God (like Laxmi, Ganesh, Vishnu) will bring material well being in life. The Husbands felt little left behind in the respect given in comparison to Gods. So the ladies knew that a special fast in the year is easy way to let the husband realise that he is no less than God in some many senses.
Another Theory: Husband were jealous that Wife celebrates Rakhi in love of brothers but there is not a single day in the year celebrating their realtionship. Hence came fasting for dear husband once a year.

@ Nitin: I can't think of any side effects! You aren't putting rice directly inside the haybox, it stays in the vessel. Besides, I don't think hay has any side effects at all! It's effectively being used for the mango/grape boxes and we have been eating the fruits for long time with no side effects right?

No Surya, I haven't tried to cook dal with this yet. Only rice, which has been successful. Sometimes it did fail when I put less water, so from then on, my advice is to put sufficient water in the beginning.

Hi sejal,

Thanks for sharing your experience with the "Heybox!" It is good to know you are using it and your feedback is useful to the Srikakulam group.

Also wanted to let you know that we followed up with over 100 people in Srikakulam district villages by visiting their homes in the evenings. These are people who bought the hayboxes few months to a year ago. In almost all houses, barring one or two, they showed us hot steaming rice in their hayboxes -- they were all using it and it was good to see so many people continuing to use!!

Hi Sejal,

Thanks for this post, please pardon this response if it comes across as a jumble: there are a few things I want say and i'll say it all here.

1) been reading your comments on UV, agree with most. have stopped commented there.... but follow it all the same.

2) when you have some time, please check out the posts on ART bill 2008 on my blog. It relates to an act to regulate 'womb on rent business' and much more.

3) we are a small group of Indians discussing the implications of ART and are looking to involve more people to partcipate in the discussion and come up with an feedback document. If any of your friends are already involved in this it would be great to know.

Finally about this post, please check out 'ten thousand villages'.... for possible sales via them, will help out. At a personal level, would like to have samples that I can show to other artisans and businesses that deal with folk art. So, a website , photo album sounds great.

have a great day

of course, I'll have to add you!! not a question. that's a given.

when i get around to doing it. i once used to use google reader ... and then i added too many people on it ... it got a bit overwhelming and i deleted all. now i gotta make a fresh new list of people who i actually want to read everyday ... and then another list of people i'd like weekly updates for.

hmm yeah i saw that video. terrible. a friend somewhere said:
women are getting lynched some place ... other place a woman is giving birth to 8 kids using IVF when she already has six at home with no father in sight ... a 13 year old is giving birth to a child to live on welfare ... and so on .... when will the asteroid come hit us? it's about time human civilization ended.

ouch i said heh ... but really!!! why are we humans playing with nature like this?

Hi Roopa,

This food is neither cheap nor of better quality (as they claim). Bt cotton was the first GM food (legally) introduced in India by Monsanto, and ever since Indian agriculture has witnessed the worst of its times, as I’ve already stated in the post. Now Monsanto has come up with a Brinjal that has same Bt bacteria and hence it’s coined as Bt Brinjal! So you can imagine what’s gonna happen next.

This is just a beginning, and if we don’t stop this, more such damaging varieties will enter Indian market.

They claim that yield would increase with Bt variety, but it didn’t happen that way, instead it damaged the land badly. You can also check the videos here: http://sejswhirlpool.wordpress.com/2008/09/23/i-want-my-father-back/.
